Mahesh Ramanujam has successfully completed his transition as the president and CEO of U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as announced by the Board of Directors. He took on this new post since November 2016 and will also serve the USGBC’s sister organization, Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) in the same post. The position was previously held by Rick Fedrizzi, the founding member of USGBC. Fedrizzi paved way for Ramanujam after announcing his plans of leaving the organization by the end of the year 2016.
Ramanujam finds this as an incredible honor to lead and serve this impressive and dynamic organization. According to him, it is an opportunity to develop and enhance USGBC’s capabilities and performance continuously. He wishes to deliver the future the dreams of the founders and transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated. Ramanujam’s journey at USGBC began in the year 2009 when he joined the organization as a senior vice president of Technology. Before becoming a part of USGBC, Ramanujam was connected to Emergys as a COO. Prior to Emergys, he worked as a consultant to IBM and served as a part of a team that helped businesses transform initiatives such as the sale of IBM PC system to Lenovo as well as its printer system to Ricoh.
Ramanujam is from Chennai, India. He has a degree in engineering in computer sciences from the Annamalai University. It was here he began his career in software and system analysis as well as product development.
By September 2011, he became the COO and within a year in December 2012 he was named as the president of GBCI. When Fedrizzi in 2015 announced his plans to leave USGBC, the Board of Directors chose Ramanujam as the incoming CEO.
